Psychotherapy Services

Dr. Rubin specializes in mindfulness-based 3rd wave cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). To learn more about 3rd wave CBT, click here. CBT has been scientifically studied for over 50 years and has been demonstrated as very effective for a wide range of presenting problems. CBT is also time sensitive, meaning that Dr. Rubin does not want her patients to be in therapy forever! Mindfulness-based 3rd wave CBT aims to increase psychological flexibility and improve overall behavioral adaptability. These can be learned by cultivating the ability to observe and experience the world as it is, distinguish judgments from reality, label and regulate emotions, slow down behavioral responses, and change how one responds to thoughts, emotions, urges, sensations, or situations. CBT promotes increasing effective behaviors that you can learn to flexibly apply across different contexts. CBT is not about becoming a perfect robot who never struggles; rather, it helps you become better equipped to skillfully navigate the ups and downs of being a human.
